Order flow began in futures, but it applies to forex too — with one important caveat. Spot forex is decentralised, so there is no single consolidated tape. The practical solution most traders use is the FX futures (for example 6E for the euro on the CME) or a broker feed with reliable bid/ask volume, then applying the same delta, absorption and imbalance logic.
Why EUR/USD is a good starting pair
EUR/USD is the most liquid currency pair, and the 6E future that tracks it is deep and clean. High liquidity means order flow signals are more reliable: absorption is real absorption, not a thin-book artefact.

Manage the risk
Forex moves on scheduled news — central bank decisions, CPI, NFP. Order flow becomes noisy and gappy around those releases. Many traders stand aside for the first minutes after high-impact news and let the flow settle before trusting a read.
Our order flow indicator works on FX futures and compatible feeds so you can apply this on EUR/USD directly. How do you handle the lack of a consolidated spot tape — futures, or a specific broker feed? Let us know below.

- Mark the session levels — the prior day's high/low, the value area, and the overnight range. These are where reactions cluster.
- Watch the open — the London and New York opens bring the volume that makes order flow readable. Outside those windows, signals thin out.
- Look for absorption at the edges — when price pushes into the prior high on rising effort but delta stalls and price won't break, sellers are absorbing. That is your reversal cue.
- Use imbalance for continuation — stacked buy imbalances through a level confirm momentum is real, not a fake-out.
